Formative assessment makes better teachers Formative assessment is done as students are learning. Summative assessment is at the end (like n exam). A bad week for the environment in Malta It was a very bad week for environmentalists and animal lovers alike in Malta, in a single week, a British Bulldog was tied outside in the scorching sun and died, 250,000 bees burned in 220 hives and a great white shark was captured and killed. • Maltese Satellites Pt2/3 +

Maltese Satellites Pt2/3 This is part 2 of the 3 part article on the importance of Malta in space featuring thLast week I wrote the first part of this 3 part series on Malta’s new emerging space endeavours. University of Malta finally took the plunge and have embarked on the first National space project for Malta, creating a Maltese satellite. Part 1 was all about nerdish details, so now that you read the technical background, let’s get more specific. The sat team at Uni decided to go with a CubeSat. As discussed these are launched into Low Earth Orbit (LEO) and have a specific and set lifetime according to the orbit altitude. They have no propulsion to adjust their orbit, hence it’s a self-decaying orbit as in LEO (as discussed previously) the sats are still effected by Earth’s gravity.e first national space project the UoMSat1, Part 1 dealt with technical background, Part2 is UoMSat1 specific.  Read More

  • The importance of tinkering in the classroom +

The importance of tinkering in the classroom Our current education system like many others around the world leaves very little time for thinking and learning through experience. We instill a paradigm on our students that success is only something which is measured by summative assessments, by certificates you achieve and how well you did in your last test. Without diminishing the importance of such achievements the reality of the situation is that said achievements show specialist skills and should not be implemented in core or stem abilities.   Read More
